Spring Has Sprung!
Spring has finally sprung in Michigan and all of us at Communication is Key are so ready for the warm weather to come. We have officially wrapped up quarter one of 2022 and in this second edition of our quarterly newsletter we are excited to share everything we’ve been working on.
Since January we have gifted out playground communication boards to seven different locations throughout Michigan. In the next few months we hope to see these boards installed at each location. You can find our newly gifted boards at Meadowbrook Elementary in Rochester Hills, Hicks in Inkster, Grogan Elementary in Southgate, Shelters Elementary in Southgate, Allen Elementary in Southgate, Fordline Elementary in Southgate, and Pathways Learning Center in Howell. We also began giving everyone who receives a core board portable versions in the form of wearable lanyards, as well as literacy resources. These lanyards are quickly becoming a favorite item and we gifted a few out to Plymouth Canton Community School, with whom we previously collaborated.
In February, one of our board members, Amanda Valenzuela, was interviewed for Let’s Taco Bout Speech, a podcast run by two SLPs who are dedicated to helping SLPs and parents explore the world of speech therapy. It was a great opportunity for Amanda as she was able to share about her son Simon and the parent perspective of navigating multiple diagnoses and speech therapy. You can locate the podcast on multiple streaming platforms.
In March, CiK attended the Autism Alliance of Michigan conference at the Novi expo center. It was a great opportunity to meet with parents and professionals and explain all we can do to help the complex communication community. After the conference we awarded a $100 Target gift card to one of our new followers. Congratulations Stacy! We also sent 3 professionals to the Michigan Speech and Language Association conference in Lansing later that month through our scholarship program.
In the next few months, we are going to be working hard on securing sponsors and donations for our upcoming Third Annual Golf Outing on September 17 at Whispering Willows Golf Course In Livonia. This is our largest event of the year and how we secure the majority of our funding that helps make our mission possible. If you have participated, donated, or sponsored in the past we would love to have you back again. Register here! cikgolfouting.com
See you in quarter two for more updates!
