We are a well established not for profit that is seeking a neuro-affirming, confident, innovative, responsible, collaborative, engaging, and energetic special educator for our unique 501c3 special needs micro-school.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about creating a safe and supportive learning environment for diverse learners while implementing creative, evidence-based practices to support academic growth specifically in the areas of literacy, math, and life skills.
Key Responsibilities & Qualifications:

Design and implement multi-sensory differentiated lessons that align with the Michigan core curriculum with effective planning for students with disabilities while focusing on literacy, math, and life skills

Implement and create behavior supports using positive reinforcement that are developmentally appropriate

Develop individualized learning plans with family and team, establishing cooperative and supportive relationships

Maintain documentation and progress monitoring (no IEP’s)

Valid Michigan teaching certificate with special education endorsement

Experience teaching students with Autism
-
Experience teaching upper elementary and older
-
Ability to work effectively with instructional and ancillary staff, implementing appropriate classroom management techniques for students with autism and other learning differences

Evidence of best practices related to serving an ASD population
-
Demonstrate leadership and initiative
-
Sensitive to the needs of students, parents and educational personnel
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-
Ability to appropriately integrate technology within instruction as needed
-
Extensive knowledge of effective systems of student data collection and application
-
Effectively uses multiple forms of assessment and progress data to plan -guide instruction and inform the learner
-
Identifies and communicates the specific job duties and responsibilities for assigned paraprofessionals to implement in support of student learning

Demonstrates regular and predictable in-person attendance
-
Provide small group and one-on-one instruction to students requiring support in the areas of reading, writing, math, and other areas as needed
-
Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs

Stand and walk frequently

Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat
-
Withstand a moderate noise level
-
Be able to perform first aid/CPR and seizure care if necessary
-
Assist with minimal to moderate support of student ADL
Qualifications
-
Current State of Michigan teaching license in special education
-
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of special education and endorsed/specialty area
-
Minimum BA/BS an accredited institution in the appropriate special education area
-
Ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior
-
Strong background in literacy intervention for students with disabilities
-
Ability to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written reports
-
Ability to effectively analyze needs and objectively problem solve
-
Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the school program such as field trips, enrichment, and celebrations
-
Ability to implement and create tiered classroom embedded interventions
-
Strong background and familiarity with AAC and AT
-
Ability to communicate at various levels with students, parents, staff, and volunteers effectively and promptly

Teacher Assistant
Position: Full & Part Time Available

Description: The special needs teacher assistant provides individualized and small group support to assist students with the academic curriculum, social activities, emotional and physical safety, minimal to moderate ADLs, and functional routines throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities:
●Provide academic and behavioral support to students with diverse learning needs in a neuro-affirming therapeutic environment
●Implement accommodations and modifications outlined in students learning plan (NO IEPS) and support goal progress
●Foster a positive, strengths-based approach that respects neurodiversity and promotes student autonomy, self-advocacy, and emotional well-being.
●Collaborate closely with lead teachers, special education staff, therapists, and families to ensure consistent and holistic student support.
●Assist in adapting curriculum, instructional materials, and classroom activities to meet varied learning styles and sensory needs.
●Support students with executive functioning skills such as organization, task initiation, and time management.
●Use proactive, trauma-informed, and de-escalation strategies to support students’ behavioral and emotional regulation.
●Collect and document data on student progress, behavior, and interventions to inform instructional decisions.
●Facilitate social skill development through guided peer interactions, modeling, and structured activities.
●Maintain a safe, structured, and flexible classroom environment that supports sensory regulation and engagement.
●Assist with transitions throughout the school day, ensuring predictability and reduced anxiety for students.
●Uphold confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with students, staff, and families.
Qualifications:
●High school diploma or equivalent
●Experience working with children with disabilities
●Experience working with AAC (Augmentative Alternative Communication)
●Ability to follow detailed instructions and adapt quickly
●Strong communication, fun, assertive, patience, and problem-solving skills
●CPR, First aide, seizure trained ( provided)
●Must pass background check
